Our Footprint free team
blazing trails in the outdoors, searching for sustainable adventure
Benno
Coming from an endurance sports background, Benno became more involved in expedition experiences when in 2011, he competed in the Marathon des Sables as one of the youngest that year. Following this experience in 2013, Benno as apart of a team of eight attempted to break the world record for the fastest row across the Atlantic Ocean. They achieved a crossing in 35 days, the fastest crossing of the year and 7th fastest, at the time, ever.
In 2015, along with Jamie Anderson, Benno skied over 1100kms along the Eastern coast of Baffin Island spending over 70 nights on the sea ice as part of their attempt to ski the route of the North-West Passage in winter.
Benno is all about the food when it comes to being Footprint Free. Cooking and preparing his own food for expeditions and trips, Benno does a mean expedition flapjack and the best longlife croissants.

Ed
A weather chart obsessed surfer, Ed is best known for his role as the founding editor of magicseaweed.com the world’s most widely used surf forecast. After a decade of documenting swells and building and selling goods he’s painfully aware of the contradictions at the heart of the environmentally conscious traveller and consumer.
He currently runs Edible Space, a small company which is committed to developing sustainable companies and has launched the digital careers of household names such as plant-based entrepreneur Deliciously Ella.
After years of working closely with the likes of Surfers Against Sewage and Save the Waves he is committed to trying to make a tangible difference in how businesses work in relation to their environment and to help facilitate a move to materials which will replace our current staples. Corporates are accomplished green-washers, but equally many solutions are complex and often imperfect. As a father and a perennial optimist he hopes to be part of the pivot to a reduced footprint future.
Besides sticking his shoulder to the wheel here, he’s got something else fermenting which he hopes will only leave an impermanent mark in the sand.

Matt
Matt’s passion for the outdoors was sparked as a young AirForce Cadet when it gradually dawned on him that getting wet and cold was worth it for the rewards you could get from being outside. Having stated down the path to a career in the outdoors he decided to keep his passion for the outdoors as his own, rather than making it pay. It did pay in other ways - Matt turned to the BIG Mountains.
His first expedition took him to the roof of Africa and the summit of Kilimanjaro in late 2013. From here, Matt, moved onto the snowy slopes of Elbrus in 2014 then, onto Peak Lenin in the Pamir Mountain range of Kyrgyzstan in 2016. In 2017 Matt took on his biggest and wildest expedition heading to Nepal to summit the famous Ama Dablam – the Matterhorn of the Himalayas.
On joining Footprint Free Adventures Matt said “I’m really excited and honoured to be asked to be a part of Footprint Free Adventures! The outdoors is a great place to see the impact the environment has on the planet. From the receding ice glaciers of Kilimanjaro to the litter and excrement strewn camp 2 on Ama Dablam – it’s very clear to see. Being asked to be a part of this team and try to start some change is a fantastic challenge and opportunity”.
